2009 Season

Johnny Winter with Larry McCray
Legendary Bluesman

Saturday, June 20 @ 8:30pm

For over 30 years, Johnny Winter has been a guitar hero without equal. Signing to Columbia records in 1969, Johnny immediately laid out the blueprint for his fresh take on classic blues a prime combination for the legions of fans just discovering the blues via the likes of Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton. Johnny's legendary hits Frankenstein, Rock Me Baby and Rock & Roll Hoochie Coo to name a few, established him as the ultimate Bluesman! Constantly shifting between simple country blues in the vein of Robert Johnson, to all-out electric slide guitar blues-rock, - Johnny has always been one of the most respected singers and guitar players in rock and the clear link between British blues-rock and American Southern rock (a la the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd.) Throughout the '70s and '80s, Johnny was the unofficial torch-bearer for the blues, championing and aiding the careers of his idols like Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker.

His recent Grammy nominated "I'm A Bluesman" album (Virgin/EMI), has only added to his Texas-sized reputation. For this release, Johnny has again paired with his long-time producer Dick Shurman (Robert Cray, Wayne June Albert Collins, Roy Buchanan), as well as Tom Hambridge (Susan Tedeschi, George Thorogood). Backing him on this CD is his road-tested touring band of guitarist Paul Nelson, bassist Scott Spray, and newly added drummer Tony Beard with guest appearances by such friends as keyboardist Reese Wynans (from Stevie Ray Vaughan's celebrated backing group Double Trouble) and ace harmonica man James Montgomery among others.

Raymond The Amish Comic
"This ain't gonna be no prayer meeting!"

Saturday, July 4 @ 6:00pm & 8:30pm

Raymond the Amish comic is truly that, Amish. Straight from the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Amish Country, Raymond the Amish Comic* makes his debut appearance at the Lexington Music Theatre! He was born and raised Amish, but became a stand-up comedian after fellow employees at a stressful day job urged him to deliver his material on a local radio show. He has since been performing for the past 14 years. The stage is a comfort zone to him, a relaxing home in a world that hasn’t always accepted him. Performing allows him to blend both his upbringing with his current lifestyle. “On stage, I don’t have to worry about fitting into one world or alienating another world.” “I am naughty. I don’t deliver any prayer meetings.” He says “…people come to my shows with the sole intention of proving that I am not nor have I ever been Amish…” Raymond has appeared in TV commercials, the movie “For Richer or Poorer” with Tim Allen, MTV, Philly After Midnight and he can be heard quite often on 95.1 WZZO out of Allentown.

But be sure to bring the tissues - because you're gonna laugh 'til you cry! Rated PG-13, Kinda R Adult Language

The songs on COAL are more than just mining songs.  Mattea says she wanted to pay tribute to “my place and my people” on a record that is as much a textured novel as it is an album.

The Soft Parade
The Doors Revisited w/Joe Russo

Friday, July 31 @ 8:30pm

The Soft Parade is revered worldwide as THE premiere Doors show. They recreate, with stunning accuracy, the primal, poetic atmosphere of a vintage Doors concert. They have toured 20 countries, been joined onstage by original Doors guitarist Robby Krieger and has performed hundreds of concerts worldwide. Their impeccable reputation and loyal international following has enabled them this year to celebrate their 15TH Anniversary.

The Soft Parade was formed in 1990 by lead vocalist Joe Russo. His goal was to re-create - for today's audiences - the theatrical, poetic, primal atmosphere of a live Doors concert. He has succeeded. The Soft Parade stands as the most fascinating, convincing example of a Doors performance there could ever be. Seeing The Soft Parade is like reliving the legendary concerts Jim Morrison and The Doors performed over 30 years ago. They are internationally recognized as one of the most authentic, realistic recreation bands working today. From the vintage musical instruments and sound equipment right down to stage clothing and hairstyles - watching them is as close to seeing the Doors as anyone can possibly get. The show is so hauntingly authentic that critics and fans continually use words like "eerie" and "chilling" to define the experience. The NEW YORK TIMES summed their impressions by saying, "The Soft Parade's show is so eerily convincing, often causing the audience to temporarily suspend it's disbelief".

Val Kilmer, star of "The Doors - The Movie" suggests you visit The Soft Parade!

"They're an exact replica...it's scary" - Frank Lisciandro-Jim Morrison's friend/biographer"

"For years, people have sized The Soft Parade up against the legend and come away impressed." - Guitar World Magazine

The Hard Lessons
In Concert

Friday, August 21 @ 8:30pm

"They're pulling me down off the ceiling!" shout newlyweds Augie and Korin Louise Visocchi of The Hard Lessons as the title track of their new album Arms Forest draws to its close. This seemingly innocuous statement is actually a telling appraisal of the couple's (and the band's) speedy rise from the Motor City's local garage brats to internationally-touring indie darlings.

Arms Forest is the result of endless touring across countries familiar and foreign. It is the distillation of youth and the beginning of life-long relationship. It is the fall of an empire and a rebirth of a band. Arms Forest is a sea of hands raised high, dancing in a living room. Arms Forest is stockpile of weapons, for sale out of back seats of automobiles. Arms Forest is the meeting place for lovers finding each other for the first time. Arms Forest is a symbol of chaos, danger and freedom.

instantly memorable performances; Explosive rock with equal parts pop & soul stashed in its back pocket!

"The Hard Lessons cram pure pop into steel-eyed soul and crumple blues riffs and vintage organ into a ball of sheer, snarling energy." ~ Denver Westword

Elvis to the Max

Saturday, September 19 @ 6:00pm & 8:30pm

The most accurate "Elvis Experience" in the world, Max Pellicano with his 16 piece band is as close as you'll ever get to the King of Rock 'n' Roll and he's headed for the Lexington Music Theatre! Well over a quarter of a century has passed since the King of Rock & Roll, Elvis Aaron Presley, died. Undisputedly there is and only ever will be one King, but the legend lives on and committed to keeping the spirit alive, is Max Pellicano. Elvis was not much of an overseas traveller, but Elvis' image in the form of Max Pellicano has already crossed the globe a dozen times. His uncanny resemblance and equally chilling performance have mesmerized tens of thousands. Is it any wonder some people still refuse to believe that Elvis Presley is dead? The costumes worn by Max are exact replicas made from the original designs by Elvis' tailor, Bill Bellow. Max has performed with notibal names such as: The Platters, George Burns, Dion, Helen Reddy, Little Anthony & The Imperials, Dolly Parton, The Coasters, Del Shannon, The Shirelles, Rich Little, Don Rickles, Davy Jones (from the Monkeys) and many others. After viewing some footage of Max, JD Summer, one of Elvis' backing singers from 1969 to 1977, said he thought that it was indeed footage of the late king. Elvis Lives on!

Paul Thorn Band

Friday, September 25 @ 8:30pm

The first thing you notice is The Voice, unique and distinctive, the voice of a man who has walked a long, hot span over dusty Mississippi country roads. At turns soulful, raw, melancholy, brazen, funky, circumspect, serene, brooding, and mutinous, the voice expresses the range of human emotions, from forlorn grimness to incandescent optimism. And after repeated listens, you realize that his is not merely the voice of a poet but also of a merciful prophet, a summation not unjustified. Those who follow the career of Paul Thorn believe he is both.

"Hook after hook, cut after memorable cut, until it becomes undeniable that you are in the hands of a master."
  — The Boston Herald

"The real deal comes along infrequently these days...word of a record this good will spread."

“Train of Love” sprang from my appreciation and love, not only for the music of Johnny Cash, but for the man himself. A champion of the underdog, a voice for those who often have none, an "outlaw" before it became fashionable. The John Corbett Band
Actor/Musician
CLICK HERE TO VISIT ARTIST'S WEBSITE

Performace Date TBA

John Corbett asks one favor: Listen to the music first. An esteemed actor known for his naturalness in off-beat roles, Corbett accepts that his first album will be met with excitement by some, skepticism by others. He wants both camps to put aside preconceptions—and put on the music. As an actor, Corbett’s always brought an easy grace to his roles, whether it’s in the acclaimed TV series Sex and the City and Northern Exposure or in the hit films My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Raising Helen. His music carries the same natural, down-to-earth spirit—only this is not role-playing.

Raul Malo & His Magnificent Trio
Singer/Songwriter of the Mavericks

Performance Date TBA

Vocal artistry that crosses genres and Borders" As lead singer of the Mavericks, Raul Malo was an artist who looked to the past--to the soaring vocals of Roy Orbison and to an era of pure pop passion and country romanticism. But as a solo artist, Raul Malo is really the future of American music: he sings in English and Spanish, is equally at home with rock, country, big-band jazz, and the rhythms of Cuba he absorbed growing up in Miami. He's sung Latin rock, he's sung acoustic Americana, he's even sung children's music. And what makes it all even better is that his voice, gorgeous to begin with has only become more unbelievable with time! This must see event will sell out quickly so don't miss your chance!

Del Castillo
Flamenco Rock
CLICK HERE TO VISIT ARTIST'S WEBSITE

Performance Date TBA

This Austin-based sextet has become one of the happening bands in a town where catching ears is no small feat. The del Castillo brothers, Rick and Mark, play Spanish guitars, which gives the group a distinctive string sound, underwritten by a heavyweight rhythm section. "Brotherhood" features songs in English and Spanish, and includes Willie Nelson on a tune he wrote, "I Never Cared for You." Whether Del Castillo works in Spanish or English, it rocks righteously. The Spanish guitars' flamenco vibe gives a dramatic flair, abetted by Alex Ruiz's passionate vocals. They pull together Latin music's romance and rock's grit. The result is such blistering tracks as "Vida Latina" and "Arena Al Viento." Watching Del Castillo perform makes you rejoice over independent music. While the group no doubt deserves to be heard by the mainstream multitudes – great music should always find a large audience – doing it the grassroots way as they have ensures we clearly hear that smoldering hybrid of flamenco, Latin rock, blues and R&B. So why mess with a great thing?

Performace Date TBA

At age 18, the Worcester England native teamed up with Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi and Chris Wood to form the legendary band Traffic. At 19, Mason penned the song "Feelin' Alright". This song has since become a rock and roll anthem, having been recorded by well over 48 artists, the best known version being Joe Cocker. The group's profound influence over rock music remains unquestioned even today. Mason departed from the group after their second album. In 1969 Dave headed for the USA to pursue a solo career. He struck gold with the album "Alone Together", which is considered a rock classic. This was followed by five albums for CBS/Sony including "Dave Mason" and "Mariposa De Oro", four of which received gold albums. "Let It Flow", which has gone well over platinum, contained the classic "We Just Disagree", a top-ten single! In addition to performing to sold-out audiences, Mason performed on a number of albums such as The Rolling Stones' "Beggars's Banquet", George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass", Paul McCartney's "Listen To What The Man Said" and Jimi Hendrix's "Electric Ladyland". One of the songs from the "Ladyland" album, "All Along the Watchtower", featured Dave playing acoustic guitar. This song, written by Bob Dylan, remains a big favorite in Dave's live show!

In October of 1993, Dave Mason formally joined the legendary group Fleetwood Mac and spent two years touring with them around the world. The band completed and album for Warner Brothers called "Time", which was released in October 1995, and features Dave's lead vocals on songs including "Blow By Blow" and "I Wonder Why".

Dave Mason's career spans over 37 years and has encompassed producing, performing and song writing. Not to mention being one of rock's great guitar players! Along with his induction as a founding member of the group Traffic into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, he is currently putting the finishing touches to a brand new solo album. In January. Along with his partner Ravi Sawhney, Dave launched a brand new electric guitar company at the 2004 NAMM show, in Anaheim, CA.

Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives
Grand Ole Opry Honorary Member
CLICK HERE TO VISIT ARTIST'S WEBSITE

Performance Date TBA

Since age 12, Stuart has been on the road, first playing mandolin with gospel act the Sullivans, and then touring with Lester Flatt's band, leaving his birthplace of Philadelphia, Mississippi, far behind. A tenure in Johnny Cash's band, followed by a half-dozen successful solo albums, where he spread the word of "hillbilly rock" across the land, has kept Stuart from spending much time in his hometown. About 150 miles south of the Mississippi Delta, which gave birth to the blues, Philadelphia is situated 35 miles north of Meridian, where Jimmie Rodgers, the Father of Country Music, was born. Clearly, both genres have been imprinted on Stuart.

Marty Stuart is country music’s renaissance man. He has scored six top-ten hits, one platinum and five gold albums, and four Grammy Awards. But his success proves the difficulty of gauging a career in charts alone. He has made lasting music as a front man and in collaboration with virtually every major roots music figure of his era, from Lester Flatt to Bob Dylan. He has evangelized for country music around the world, eulogized the departed legends of the field, and identified and encouraged talents of the future. Stuart has produced records for some of the most distinguished artists working today, and many famous names have chosen to record his songs. Stuart's energetic enthusiasm has gone outside music, yielding impressive work as a photographer, writer, collector and arts executive.

The jazz-blues-and-swing combo that touched off a whole new craze for classic American dance music in the 1990s is back with a summer party to beat the band! Big Bad Voodoo Daddy took its name from an autograph blues guitarist Albert Collins scrawled on a poster for BBVD leader Scotty Morris in 1989. With thousands of appearances in the U.S. and overseas over the last decade, the band became known for delivering a good time more reliably than just about anybody else. Almost anything can happen in a Big Bad Voodoo Daddy concert--such ass the world's only male-vocal version of the Blue Lu Barker classic "Don't You Feel My Leg." They just backed the inimitable Dean Martin on his new "Forever Cool" release, and they've got a new album on the way themselves. Don't you dare miss it!

Winter Dance Party

Performance Date TBA

Buddy . . . The Buddy Holly Story opened at the American Heartland Theatre in Kansas City in January, 1996. Fans were quick to realize that before John Mueller played Buddy Holly, never has the rock and roll legend been so faithfully portrayed. Aside from winning a Drama Desk award, John's performance is perhaps best summed up by original Crickets member Niki Sullivan. "John is a reincarnation of Buddy Holly. He is that good. He has the same determination in his eyes that Buddy did and when John is on stage, he is a totally dynamic performer, just like Buddy. John is awesome."

John has annually headlined his critically acclaimed Winter Dance Party® show for many years now. Since 1999, this tribute concert has re-created the original tour of 1959 that was tragically to be the last ever for Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper. Highlights of the tour over the years have included John being awarded the Key to the City of Green Bay Wisconsin and performing at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake Iowa, where Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper gave their last performance before their tragic plane crash on February 3, 1959. Other notable performances include the Jerry Lewis Telethon and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. John’s Winter Dance Party concert was filmed live and is now available on DVD. Today Buddy Holly’s music is alive and well. John has brought Buddy Holly back to life to packed houses around the United States, Canada, England, Scotland and Ireland. John is a reincarnation of Buddy . . . A lot of people say that now, echoed by such publications as the Chicago Tribune -- "John Mueller is living proof of Buddy Holly's legacy!
